FAQ's

Q. Can I receive financial aid?

A. The Barber Academy does not accept Federal or State taxpayer funding for any purpose, including student financial aid.

Q. When can I start?

A. We have open enrollment, so you can start 2 Weeks after the initial deposit and application acceptance.

Q. Do you offer evening classes?

A. Yes, we're open Mon-Fri 9AM – 8PM and Sat 9AM - 6PM.

Q. How many hours of training does it take to complete the course?

A. 1500 Hours; 1350 Hours on the floor, 150 theory hours. Full time takes about 10 months based on 40 hours per week of attendance

Q. Do I need to purchase your tool kit, if I already have my own tools?

A. Yes, it's included in the cost of the course. All equipment is recommended and approved by our faculty for instructional purposes.

Q. Do you assist in job placement?

A. Yes, we have many shops inquiring about recent grads. Names are posted in the locker room.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. Starting at $1500 down, call for further details.

Q. Do I receive a discount if I pay for course in full?

A. Yes, call for details.

Q. Are there payment plans?

A. Yes, after an initial deposit, payments are made monthly and rates depend on hours attended and services performed.

Q. What's considered full-time?

A. 24, 32 & 40 hours per week.

Q. What's considered part-time?

A. 12, 16 & 20 hours per week.

Q. I was a licensed barber, but I let my license lapse more than 5 years what do I need to do?

A. You'll most likely need a 250 hour refresher course, offered by us, to renew your license. Presently the course is $2500, plus you'll need to have tools prior to starting.

Q. Do you teach ethnic hair cutting?

A. Yes, we have expertise in all hair types.

Q. Do I have to learn perms & colors?

A. The state will test you on chemical applications so it's part of the theoretical curriculum.

Q. Do I have to do all 1500 hours, if I already know how to cut hair, have a masters degree or am politically connected(etc...)?

A. Yes, no exceptions.

Q. If I'm already a licensed cosmetologist, do I have to do all 1500 hours?

A. Yes, no exceptions.

Q. Are you V.A. approved for the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill?

A. Yes, please bring in your form DD-214 & certificate of eligibility percentage. An initial deposit may be required.

Q. My friends & relatives say you can't make money being a barber, is this true?

A. They probably did not attend The Barber Academy.

Q. Do I need a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent?

A. No, but you must be at least 16 years of age to take the state board test.
